Vintage Rare Heathkit HA-14 Kompact Kilowatt Linear Amp for restoration
Clean looking and working Heathkit HA-14 1 kilowatt amp but needs some help. Covers 80, 40, 20, 15, 10 using a pair of 572B's.
I tested the HA-14 using a Heathkit HP-24 and driving it with an Icom 718. First with 50 then 90 watts CW mode on 40 meters 7.272, ZS6BKW antenna. My bench watt meter showed 200 watts with 50 watts drive in. Could be just one tube working, but that's speculation.
I moved the Rf output of the Icom to 90 watts and the watt meter showed 250. I tested it on 20 meters, 14.230 with similar results. Although this linear was designed for SSB, you can run CW with no problem. Just watch your duty cycle. That's all the testing I did.
Switches and controls moved freely. Case was repainted black by a previous owner but looks good. Just the amp, no power supply or cables. A great piece for restoration. There could be other issues with the unit that are yet to be discovered. Will require maintenance and or repair sooner or later.
