Wow, here is a really nice working linear amplifier from the working ham station of a recently deceased ham operator. The amplifier, a Heathkit SB-221, is in great shape physically and electrically. I put the amp on the bench here at Sacramento Radio Expo and checked the operations with a MFJ power meter and dummy load. I set up a Yaesu FT890 to drive it and checked all bands. With only about 30-40 watts into the linear I pegged the power meter at greater than 300 Watts. Unfortunately I do not have a 2KW meter to fully check the high end output but I suspect it should do fine. If you are looking for a full 2KW PEP SSB amplifier this would be the one that I would recommend. The power cord has been added to (by the original owner) for a longer reach. I put some new heat shrink tubing over the wires. I cleaned the contacts of the relay with deoxit D5 to ensure trouble free operation. The amplifier controls worked fine and the overall operation is easy and safe. Overall, a very good amplifier - but very heavy. I have had a few questions asked about this unit. This amplifier is presently set up for 120 VAC operation. I understand that it could be wired internally for 220 VAC but presently it is 120V. Also, this is the SB-221 amplifier - it covers 80m - 15m.
It does not cover the 10m or 11m band. There were modifications some hams made to add the 10m band but it is presently in original condition and only 80m - 15m. 100Watts in to produce 1200 Watts out according to original specs.
